“Buying tortillas from the supermarket versus making them at home is like night and day. You will notice and taste the difference when you make them from scratch. There is nothing better than tasting your own creation!”

Instructions

1
In a bowl, add the flour and the salt, and mix gently to combine.
2
Heat up the water as indicated in the recipe.
3
Slowly pour the warm water with the flour and salt mixture that is in the bowl. With your hands, mix the ingredients together until you get a smooth dough. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes so it can hydrate well and be flexible later on.
4
With your hands start making balls. With this recipe, you will be able to make approximately 9 balls. If you have a tortilla press, add a piece of parchment paper, a ball of dough and another piece of parchment paper. Next, you will lower the press to form the flat shape of the tortilla. Repeat these steps until you no longer have any dough.
5
If you do not have any tools to make tortillas, don't fret, we don't either. We made ours a different way. On a flat surface, add a piece of parchment paper, a ball of dough and another piece of parchment paper. With a rolling pin, roll out and flatten the dough until it is thin. In order to give it the perfect circle shape you can use something in your kitchen with the same shape. Repeat these steps until you have finished the dough.
6
Heat up a flat grill or skillet (no oil or anything necessary). Place one tortilla. When the color of the edges begin to brown, you can flip it over. When the tortillas are ready they will puff up. Once this has happened you can remove them.

Tips & Tricks

If you have leftover dough because you don't feel like making so many tortillas you can keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days.

If this is your first time, it's very likely that giving the tortillas their perfect circular shape was the most difficult part of this recipe. Don't lose hope because it is possible! Just like with everything else, the first time is the most difficult but the more you practice and continue to make it, the easier and better it will turn out. If you have the press to give them their shape, it will surely be a lot easier.
