Instructions
1
Peel and cut the tomato into dice and add it to a pan with oil.
2
When you see that the tomato begins to cook, add the cumin, turmeric, paprika, and salt to the pan and stir to mix well.
3
Wash and drain the lentils and add them to the pan. Let them cook and absorb the flavors from the pan for about 2 minutes. Stir frequently. Add 2 or 3 cups of water (according to how thick you want your dal).
4
After several minutes, grind your dal and it's ready to serve.
Tips & Tricks
Try adding half a chopped onion or a couple garlic cloves in the first step so that the tomato absorbs their flavor.
For a more authentic Indian result, why don't you try adding Garam Masala (a mixture of Indian spices) in the second step with a bit of ground ginger?
You can also add cayenne in the second step to add spiciness to the dish.
