Beat the egg in a bowl.
Add the milk and date caramel or syrup and stir to incorporate.
Soak the bread in the mixture, turning to absorb the liquid on both sides. Toast one slice in a hot skillet with a little olive oil until golden on both sides. Repeat the process with the other slices.
